WORDS TO LIVE BY...

I have a few mantras I like to live by: "Life is good", "What's your motive?," and "Everything's a trade off." When I use these, my perspective seems to be better and I trade some activities for others that will make my life (or someone else's) better and happier. Life's all about choices; you can't do everything. We are always trading one activity for another. Hopefully we choose the most long-lasting, worthwhile, and rewarding things to do with our precious time.

Changing houses. Wowza.

We bought a house a month ago. Another one. It wasn't my idea.
But Matt and Maggie are moving back in December (hallelujah!!), and Aunt Laurie got wind of this. She asked if maybe they would be interested in buying her house around the corner from us. Four bedrooms, big yard. Across from the park. Near us. Sounds perfect.
But Matt and Maggie have six children at home. We have zero children at home. We have six bedrooms here and eight bathrooms. And a 1/2 acre lot with a pool. Hmmmmmmm.
So, WE bought Laurie and Dallas' home because it makes more sense for everybody.
We don't have the slave labor anymore to clean all these bathrooms! We're old. It's hurts more to clean a pool, mow tons of lawn, trim and care for tons of roses, trim lots of fruit trees, etc., etc. Matt and Maggie are young. I will miss my beautiful home here, but I'm happy that Matt and Maggie will love and take care of it. And especially, I will love having them right around the corner from me!!

Below is the house as it looked when we made our decision...with one exception. The tree on the left was green and happy. We decided we would cut it down because it wasn't pretty, and it immediately started turning brown!! Poor thing! It heard us talking!! Notice the big space to the left of the house. That'll be our new garage.
This is another view from the south. I really like the stairs leading up to a slate patio.
Aunt Laurie is so amazingly talented. She and Dallas put in all the slate steps and patios. I really like them.
She and Dallas stubbed it out to put a fountain in, which we will do, thanks to Mooch Huntsman!
This will be our view of the park from the from yard.
This is the interior living area and family area in the distance. The little window opening on the right goes through to the kitchen.
This is the living room, again, looking at it from the front entry.
Here is the kitchen with the custom made bar made by Laurie and Dallas. It has a copper sink!!
Here is the backyard from the south (stepping out of the family room door). There's a Sport Court on the far side, as well as a trampoline...and lots of fake grass and weeds.
Here's the Sport Court view looking at the back of the house.
Here is the master bathroom. Of course, Aunt Laurie created and made this beautiful mosaic on the wall. That window will be gone when we put up a garage on the other side of that wall.
 Also the master bathroom.
And this is the half bath off of the living room. The Amazing Aunt Laurie also created this beautiful wall using different tiles that she had sitting around. The little sink doesn't work because it's from Europe and Laurie couldn't find the European plumbing here in the USA. So we'll be replacing that.
In my next post I'll put the changes that are happening.
This whole blog started because some of you expressed an interest in watching this house process as it progresses. So here you have it. It's taken me pretty well all day, but I'm figuring this out!
